The Melvins are an American rock band formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington. Their early work was key to the development of both grunge and sludge metal. The band's sound is characterized by a heavy, slow, and experimental approach to rock music. The Melvins' lineup has changed multiple times throughout their career, but the constant members have been guitarist and vocalist Buzz Osborne (also known as King Buzzo) and drummer Dale Crover. They have a prolific discography that spans across several decades, with "Lysol" (1992), "Houdini" (1993), and "(A) Senile Animal" (2006) being notable albums that showcase different eras of the band's evolution. "Houdini" in particular is often cited as one of their most accessible and influential records, partially produced by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, who was a fan of the band. The Melvins have maintained a dedicated fan base and continue to tour and release new music, influencing many bands within the alternative, metal, and indie rock scenes.
