Maria Stader

Maria Stader

Swiss-Hungarian Soprano

Maria Stader (1911–1999) was a renowned Hungarian-born Swiss soprano, celebrated for her clear, lyrical voice and her interpretations of Mozart and the bel canto repertoire. Although not a household name like some of her contemporaries, Stader made significant contributions to the world of classical music during her career. She was particularly admired for her performances in concert and oratorio. Due to her small stature, she faced limitations in operatic roles on stage but found a niche in recording and concert performances where her vocal qualities could shine without the physical demands of operatic staging. Stader worked with some of the leading conductors of her time, including Ferenc Fricsay, with whom she recorded extensively. Her discography includes works by Mozart, Bach, and Mahler, among others. While I cannot confirm specific albums such as Requiem op.89, Die Lustigen Weiber Von Windsor, Lucia di Lammermoor in relation to Maria Stader without further research, it is clear that her legacy is marked by a distinguished body of recorded work that continues to be appreciated by classical music enthusiasts.
