Jon Christensen was a Norwegian jazz drummer who was widely recognized for his contributions to the European jazz scene. Born on March 20, 1943, in Oslo, Norway, he became known for his unique style, which was often characterized by a fluid, open approach to drumming that eschewed strict timekeeping in favor of a more impressionistic accompaniment. Christensen was a key figure in the development of Scandinavian jazz and played an integral role as a member of the renowned Keith Jarrett "European Quartet" in the 1970s, which also featured Jan Garbarek and Palle Danielsson. This group produced the album "Belonging" in 1974, which is highly regarded in the jazz community.
