Jaroslav Šimíček

Jazz double bass player, composer and arranger based in Prague, Czech Republic. Started first band Jazzová Laboratoř / Jazz Laboratory while studying University of Ostrava (Czech language/Music) and classes of jazz practics by Karel Velebný. During studies also collaborating as a bass guitar player in Richard Kroczek's Mikro. After military service in army band AUS VN (1988) got engagement in Michal Prokop's Framus Five (Framus 5 Michala Prokopa), then in Binder-Konrád Blues Band. Further collaborating as a double bass player with many of czech jazz trios (e.g. Vojtěch Eckert Trio) , quarterts (e.g. Julius Baroš Quartet) or quintets and singers (Petra Ernyei, Renu Gidoomal). Also bandleading Orchestr Sester Havelkových / The Havelka Sisters Orchestra (1996-2013) and has made around one hundred arrangements and 5 CDs for the ensemble. Then taking part in projects as Nedaba (Tomáš Sýkora), Jan Štolba Quartet, Jan Třešňák Temporary Quintet. Jaroslav Šimíček has started composing in 80's for Jazz Laboratory. In 90's music compositions for theaters and setting to music lyrics by Petr Motýl. First original albums are "Hudba z Paneláku" (2003), "Orinich Mamirach" (2006), "Mloci a Čolci a jiné písně" (2008) – all self-released. Jaroslav Šimíček Quartet ( with Radek Zapadlo (tenorsax), Matej Benko (piano), Tomáš Hobzek (drums) ) debuts with an album "Cesta domů" / "The Way Home" released by Arta Records in 2009. In 2012 Arta Records released album "Ať rosa z nebes sestoupí" – Christmas songs composed on poems by Petr Motýl and performed by Tomáš Sýkora's wrgha Powu Orchestra. In 2014 has established vocal trio Prime Time Voice that is accompanied by himself (and other instrumentalists) furthermore Šimíček is arranging and composing for the band. Prime Time Voice's first album is "Live" (2014) in live concert and second "Lazy Afternoon" (2016) studio album - both released by Arta Records. Second album of Jaroslav Šimíček Quartet is "Quintet" (2017) ( with David Fárek (sopranosax, tenorsax), Osian Roberts (tenorsax), Vít Pospíšil (piano), Dušan Černák (drums) ) released by Arta Records. Latest album is a chamber music inbetween of chamber music, jazz and children music genres – "Putování zemí Ra" (2019) released by Galén.
