The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) is a prestigious symphony orchestra based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Founded in 1936 by Bronislaw Huberman, the IPO was established as a haven for Jewish musicians fleeing Europe during the Nazi regime. Since its inception, the orchestra has grown to become one of Israel's foremost cultural institutions and is internationally recognized for its performances and recordings. The IPO has worked with many of the world's leading conductors and soloists, and it has toured extensively across the globe. Over the years, the orchestra has also been involved in numerous recordings of a wide range of classical repertoire. Zubin Mehta served as its Music Director for Life until his retirement in 2019, and Lahav Shani took over as Music Director in 2020. The IPO continues to uphold its tradition of excellence, promoting Israeli and international music culture through its performances both at home and abroad.
