Georg Philipp Telemann

Baroque German Composer and Multi-Instrumentalist

Georg Philipp Telemann was a prolific German Baroque composer and multi-instrumentalist, considered one of the most versatile and important composers of his time. Born on March 14, 1681, in Magdeburg, then part of the Holy Roman Empire, Telemann became a central figure in the music world through his innovative compositions and his influence on the development of the concerto and chamber music genres. Over the course of his career, he held various important musical positions, including Kapellmeister in Sorau (now Żary, Poland), Eisenach, and Frankfurt before ultimately settling in Hamburg as the music director of that city's five main churches.
