Francesco Scarlatti

Francesco Scarlatti

Italian Baroque Composer

Francesco Scarlatti (1666–1741) was an Italian Baroque composer and a lesser-known member of the illustrious Scarlatti family, which included his more famous brother, Domenico Scarlatti, and his father, Alessandro Scarlatti, both renowned composers of their time. Francesco's career was overshadowed by the accomplishments of his relatives, but he did contribute to the musical world in his own right. He worked in various Italian cities before moving to London in the early 18th century, where he became involved in the city's vibrant musical scene. While Francesco's output is not as extensive or influential as that of his brother or father, he composed a number of cantatas and church music. His works are less well-documented and infrequently performed today, but they do provide insight into the breadth of the Scarlatti family's musical legacy. The albums mentioned seem to be compilations that include works from various members of the Scarlatti family rather than exclusively featuring Francesco's compositions.
