19th-Century German Romantic Composer and Pianist

Ferdinand Hiller was a German composer, conductor, and pianist of the Romantic era, born on October 24, 1811, in Frankfurt am Main. He was a prolific composer and a prominent figure in the musical life of his time. Hiller's career was marked by his close associations with many of the leading musicians of the day, including Felix Mendelssohn, Frédéric Chopin, and Robert Schumann. He served as the conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig and later held a significant position in Cologne where he helped establish its conservatory and directed the Gürzenich concerts.
