Everything but the Girl

Everything but the Girl

British pop duo

Everything but the Girl, often abbreviated as EBTG, is an English musical duo formed in 1982 in Hull, England, consisting of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt. The band's style has evolved over the years from their initial approach that blended elements of jazz, folk, and pop on their debut album "Eden" in 1984, to more electronic and dance-oriented music in their later work. They achieved mainstream success with singles such as "Missing," which was remixed by Todd Terry and became a global hit in the mid-1990s. The remix's success propelled their 1994 album "Amplified Heart" to wider audiences, marking a turning point in their career towards a more electronic sound that was further explored on their critically acclaimed 1996 album "Walking Wounded." The duo has been recognized for their intelligent lyrics and adept musical arrangements, earning them a dedicated fan base and respect within the music industry. After a hiatus starting in the early 2000s during which Thorn and Watt focused on solo projects and personal lives, Everything but the Girl has remained an influential act with a lasting legacy in both pop and electronic music circles.
