Canadian Jazz Trumpeter and Composer

Don Cherry was an innovative American jazz trumpeter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his pioneering work in the free jazz movement of the 1960s. Born on November 18, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Cherry became famous for his collaborations with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, with whom he played a significant role in the development of avant-garde jazz. He was part of the Ornette Coleman Quartet, which pushed the boundaries of jazz with their landmark album "The Shape of Jazz to Come" in 1959.
