Die Antwoord

Die Antwoord

South African rap-rave group

Die Antwoord is a South African hip-hop group formed in Cape Town in 2008. The group consists of rappers Ninja and Yolandi Visser, who perform in both English and Afrikaans, often incorporating elements of the South African counterculture movement known as Zef into their music and aesthetic. Die Antwoord's music is known for its provocative nature, blending aggressive beats with often controversial lyrics and imagery. They gained international attention with their debut album "$O$" in 2009, which featured the viral hit "Enter the Ninja." The band's unique style and videos have amassed a significant online following, leading to global tours and performances at major festivals. Over the years, they have released several albums, including "Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid" in 2016, further cementing their status as cult figures within the alternative hip-hop scene. Die Antwoord's work has also extended into other media, with appearances in films such as Neill Blomkamp's "Chappie" (2015). Despite their success, the group has been a subject of controversy and criticism for various reasons throughout their career.
