Chuck Rio

Chuck Rio

Chuck Rio was the stage name of Daniel Flores, an American rock and roll and rhythm and blues saxophonist, who is best known for his work under the moniker "The Champs." Born on July 11, 1929, in Santa Paula, California, Flores adopted the name Chuck Rio in 1957. He gained fame as the composer and saxophonist for the song "Tequila," which became a number one hit on both the pop and R&B charts in 1958. The song was performed by The Champs, a group that Flores was a part of, and it went on to win a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. Although "Tequila" was their most famous hit, The Champs recorded several albums throughout their career. Chuck Rio's distinctive saxophone playing style was influential in the rock and roll genre and has been widely recognized for its impact on the development of rock music.
