Body Count is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1990. The group was founded by rapper Ice-T and guitarist Ernie C out of their mutual interest in heavy metal music. Ice-T took on the role of lead vocalist and lyricist, blending the aggressive styles of hip-hop and heavy metal to address social issues such as racism, police brutality, and inner-city violence. Body Count's self-titled debut album was released in 1992 and featured the controversial track "Cop Killer," which sparked widespread debate and led to political pressure that eventually forced the song to be removed from the album.
