Canadian Jazz Pianist and Educator

Barry Harris was an American jazz pianist, bandleader, composer, arranger, and educator. Born on December 15, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, he was a prominent figure in the bebop and hard bop scenes. Harris was known for his work with a plethora of jazz greats including Cannonball Adderley, Dexter Gordon, and Coleman Hawkins among others. He was deeply influenced by Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk and became one of the standard-bearers for the bebop piano tradition.
