Alexander Borodin

Russian Romantic Composer and Chemist

Alexander Borodin was a prominent Russian composer, chemist, and a member of the group of composers known as "The Mighty Handful," or "The Five." He was born on November 12, 1833, in Saint Petersburg and died on February 27, 1887. Despite being primarily a chemist in his professional life, Borodin made significant contributions to Russian classical music. His most famous works include Symphony No. 2 in B minor, often referred to as the "Heroic," which is known for its powerful and vigorous style, and the opera "Prince Igor," celebrated for its integration of Russian folk melodies and rhythms with the traditional operatic form.
