The Best of Both Worlds is the second greatest hits album by American hard rock band Van Halen, released by Warner Bros. on July 20, 2004. The compilation contains material recorded with singers David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, excluding Gary Cherone's three-year stint in the band. Prior to the release of The Best of Both Worlds, Hagar reunited with Van Halen and the band subsequently recorded three new songs that appear on the album. All three new songs were released as singles. The compilation features 16 tracks from six albums from the David Lee Roth era (1978-1984) and 14 tracks from four albums from the Sammy Hagar era (1986-1995), as well as three live tracks featuring Hagar from the Live: Right Here, Right Now album (1993) and three new tracks featuring Hagar created for this compilation. The album was released to promote a new reunion tour with Hagar's vocals. The three new songs were also performed live at various times.
