While the first album, Sunday at the Village Vanguard, focused on Scott LaFaro's solo work, Waltz for Debby is a portrait of the trio that included drummer Paul Motian in addition to Evans and LaFaro. Evans shows a different face here than, for example, in his collaboration with Miles Davis, his style is clearly more emotive. The interplay of this trio is impressive.
