Even in the highly adrenaline-fuelled music business, it's very rare to find such a burst of energy as Suzi Quatro. Since the age of 14, the American has been on the scene for more than 50 years, regularly blasting her big hits like "Can The Can," "48 Crash," "Devil Gate Drive," "If You Can't Give Me Love," "She's In Love With You" and "Stumblin' In," which made her an icon in the '70s, and she continues to wow her fans with new songs. No wonder she's not thinking of leaving. "I'm not going to retire until I turn around, shake my ass and get quiet," she explains, knowing full well that a lot of time will pass before then. Suzi Quatro has recorded eleven new songs (plus two bonus tracks) for the album "No Control". On most of the songs she collaborated with Richard Tuckey, her son from her first marriage. Suzi: "It was our first attempt to write and record something together. The creative progress began with the song Don't Do Me Wrong. During the beautiful English summer of 2018, we were sitting outside, with an acoustic bass, acoustic guitar, a recording app on an iPad and lots of paper, throwing ideas at each other." And with great results, as you can hear on the new album. For Suzi, by the way, not only musically, but also personally. For example, in the first single "No Soul/No Control", whose message is "Never give up for someone else". Suzi: "That's my personal mantra. The most valuable thing you have in the world is yourself." On the creation of the number, she says: "We were heavily preoccupied with current songs. Richard had a new idea and showed it to me. A fairly simple song with guitar and drums, quite unusual but I liked it. I went into the studio and after 15 minutes I had found the right melody and lyrics. The number wrote itself, as the best songs often do." Similarly with numbers like "Macho Man" (Suzi: "Probably the perfect concert opener. You just shake your mane at it, it grabs you right away."), "I Can Teach You To Fly" ("Definitely a throwback to the sixties"), "Easy Pickings" ("I've been strumming this riff on my acoustic guitar forever, for at least ten years. Probably the most unusual track on the album is called "Strings", and it evolved into a little masterpiece during the studio sessions. Suzi: "It's about the strings that hold our lives together. Great riff! I drove everyone crazy with my crazy idea to sing the chorus. I couldn't get it out of my head and - hallelujah - the result was exactly what I imagined." You can feel the pride of Suzi Quatro in the song "No Control". Pride and joy in a career that has spanned five decades and that has preserved the creativity of an American rock icon to this day. She says, "I've never stopped making new records over the years. "Back To The Drive" in 2006, "In The Spotlight" in 2011, "Quatro, Scott & Powell" in 2016. These works were carefully planned and thought out to the last detail. I am proud of all three, very proud in fact. But my new album 'No Control' is something else entirely."
