The Lion and the Cobra is the debut album by Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor , released in 1987. The album was produced by John Reynolds, who also played guitar and keyboards on the album. The album was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios and at home in Dublin, Ireland. The album was released to favorable critical acclaim, with critics praising O'Connor's voice and her unique style. The album spawned the singles "Mandinka", "Troy" and "The Emperor's New Clothes", the latter of which reached number one on the Irish singles chart.
