Tokyo Tapes is an album by the German rock band Scorpions , released in 1978. The album was recorded in Tokyo, Japan in January 1978 during the band's tour of Japan. The album was released in Japan in February 1978 and in the United States in November 1978. The album was the band's first live album and was recorded in front of a live audience. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching No. 8 on the Japanese album chart and No. 171 on the Billboard 200 album chart in the United States. The album received a gold certificate from the Recording Industry Association of America for selling more than 500,000 copies in the United States. The album features live versions of the band's songs, including "Lovedrive", "Holiday", "Another Piece of Meat" and "Blackout". The album was re-released on CD in 1992 and remastered and re-released on CD in 2009.
