Deadwing was Porcupine Tree's eighth studio album, first released in 2005 after the band's breakthrough album In Absentia. It was the second in a series of three albums that many consider to be the pinnacle of the band's artistic achievements. It also coincided with the band's new commercial success and became the band's best-selling album of the period. Written by Steven Wilson and directed by Mike Bennion, approximately half of the songs were written as part of the film's score. However, when the film did not make it into production, Wilson instead used them as the basis for the next PT album, on which additional material was co-written with the other band members. The album includes the classic singles "Shallow" and "Lazarus", which Wilson still performs live with his current band. Other popular songs from the album include "Open Car" and "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here".
