Like Ella Fitzgerald, Cole Porter seems an ideal source for Peterson, who is an incomparable ally of verbal and musical dexterity, an improviser who must find musical equivalents for the shimmering rhymes. Peterson's rhythmic gifts and legendary talent are standout features of these performances. Most remarkable, however, is the irresistible swing of this group, whose infectious energy breathes new life into familiar songs. The cohesion of this trio gives the impression that there is only one mind behind their sounds. This is a reference album.
