A truly unique modern album!TRAVELED FROM THE WEEK - Author: My One And Only Thrill(Verve/Universal)The girl from Philadelphia with the catchy name Melody continues what she hinted at on last year's long-playing debut Worrisome Heart. In-song pop/jazz easy listening, as if cut from the songbook of Diana Krall or Madeleine Peyroux. The production was handled by Larry Klein, known for his work with Joni Mitchell and for his supervision of Madeleine Peyroux's recordings.The album is sometimes enveloped by a light Latin breeze. It is not surprising that Melody names not only Miles Davis and George Gershwin, but also Caetano Veloso among her favourite musicians and composers. Wow, what a nice donkey's bridge to today's next review. The singer, pianist and guitarist is no stranger to the Dixie blues (Your Heart Is As Black As Night). On the album, however, she did without almost any cover-versions and standards. She cut only the film perennial Over The Rainbow, but in an unconventionally sped-up, semi-Latin version. Although the songs often seem to be cut from years gone by, Melody writes them herself. Only two songs were helped by guitarist Jesse Harris, famous for co-writing and playing with another of Melody's genre colleagues, Norah Jones.Since being hit by a car at nineteen, Melody (*1985) has been walking around the world with a cane. It wasn't until after the crash that she got to Khudbe through music therapy! It is no mere platitude that such a result of music therapy can heal others. At the very least, it will neuroze.
