Although Manfred himself was familiar with the band's previous success in the pop charts, The Roaring Silence album secured a whole new level of fame for Manfred Mann's Earth Band when it topped the charts in 1977. Bruce Springsteen's Blinded By The Light, of course, had all the makings of a hit, but must have surprised both the band and Springsteen, as it was the first number one album for both. This track was appreciated by Mann's legion of fans, as the refreshing combination of the newly added Chris Thompson's vocals and Mann's familiar keyboard phrases made this a modern classic rock standard.
