On his new album "In A Time Lapse" Ludovico Einaudi reflects on the finitude of life and its influence on our feelings and experiences. He creates a moving soundtrack to a kind of time-lapse film about life, a phenomenon known, for example, from descriptions of people with near-death experiences. "The moment when we realise that our time of life is finite is of elemental importance. Because it is here that the effort to go beyond thinking and to experience each moment as intensely as in childhood begins," Einaudi explains the philosophical background of his album. As epic and emotive as "Divenire" and as experimental and adventurous as "Nightbook", Ludovico Einaudi once again creates novel sonic textures and refined arrangements on "In A Time Lapse" that bring different musical worlds together. Throughout this fascinating musical phenomenology of our experience of time, there are reminiscences of the Baroque and themes from Italian folklore typical of the Italian composer and pianist, appealing late romantic string passages, and a varied palette of percussive and electronic timbres. The album's fourteen new pieces were recorded in a remote monastery near Verona with Einaudi's permanent ensemble, the I Virtuosi Italiani String Orchestra. Violinist Daniel Hope is featured as a prominent guest soloist in four pieces: in "Life" and "Experience" with I Virtuosi Italiani, in "Underwood", a moving duet with Einaudi, and in "Orbit", where the solo violin seems to soar towards the sky - towards infinity.
