In today's progressive rock, it seems like a new supergroup is formed every week. But long before that became the norm, and before musicians started regularly working in more than one band, there was Liquid Tension Experiment. In 1997, Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic, Sons of Apollo), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) and Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) joined forces to form Liquid Tension Experiment. In 1998 the foursome released their legendary debut album and in 1999 the impressive follow-up "LTE2". They created a dynamic, wild and inventive sound that is still unique today. The incredible creativity of this collective led Petrucci and Portnoy to invite Rudess to Dream Theater, which was to be the end of this side project. For 22 years nothing happened, though few reunions were more sought after than this one. But now, with the world closed and the calendars of these four Ausmahmemusicians unexpectedly empty, the unthinkable has happened... LTE3. The eight songs on the new album LTE3 are a mixture of four fully composed tracks, two duets, an improvised jam and a carefully arranged cover. "We composed four songs. We realized it was the same as the first two albums," Portnoy explains. Jordan Rudess agrees, "It's like a sequel. It's like when we recorded LTE2 and then we came back a week later to do LTE3. I know it's amazing, but time has flown by and the chemistry is exactly the same. It was great then and it's great now." Petrucci comments, "Who would have thought a group of guys our age would be playing like this? He's relentless. It's definitely a statement that we're back. It's like it always is, when you hit 'play' you get swept away."
