This 1956 recording of Puccini's ever-popular La Boheme was Callas's twelfth complete opera recording at La Scala in Milan, although she never sang it live on stage here or anywhere else. Although Mimì is less demanding than many of the other roles, Callas nevertheless displays a highly refined singing style in it, characterised by uniquely sensitive musicianship and admirable rhythmic mastery. The cast also includes a very pleasing interpretation of Musetta by Anna Moffo and, as Rodolfo, Giuseppe Di Stefano, one of the most beautiful lyric tenor voices of the twentieth century.
