Ereb Altor always promises one thing: epic folk-mixed metal inspired by Nordic legends. "Vargtimman" once again mixes things up with true and honest pagan themes in lyrics and art. Each track delivers majestic riffs and some of the band's best vocals. Sharp heavy metal riffs, Nordic melodies, catchy choruses and thunderous drums set the tone for the rest of the album. Although the lyrics retain a Norse mythological theme, this is probably the most emotional collection of songs Ereb Altor has released. In addition to the well-sung lyrics, both the heavier, darker voice and the incredibly epic clean vocals, epic riffs rip through the album, giving it the titanic feel that this jiggly little guy deserves. Ereb Altor's greatest strength is their songwriting style, they write killer songs, unforgettable songs. When they let loose and really get to shredding, it adds to the incredibly powerful atmosphere. This is by far Ereb Altor's best composed and therefore most mature album in their already impressive career, thanks to the addition of keys, a good mix of epic and more traditional riffs, and vocals that are probably the best Ereb Altor have ever used on an album. "Vargtimman" is one of the best Viking metal albums in many years and possibly one of the best in 2022!
