Swinging Previn: Gershwin's 1971 album on vinyl Those who associate conductor Andre Previn only with classical music are mistaken: the conductor and pianist, born in 1929 in Los Angeles, has been closely associated with jazz since his youth. As a teenager, he performed in jazz concerts and recorded with such greats as Willie Smith and Red Callender in the mid-1940s. When Previn took over the leadership of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1969, his fans were hardly surprised when, shortly afterwards, he recorded two of "jazz's most classical works" in his personal association as soloist and conductor: George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and his Piano Concerto in F major. The double album, now remastered on 180g vinyl and also including the orchestral piece An American in Paris, brings together two absolutely reference recordings of these works.
