The album "Pearl" is in a way a legacy of Janis Joplin - shortly after the recording was finished, the blues-rock legend died of a heroin overdose in October 1970. With incredible sensitivity, she perfected songs like "Me And Bobby McGee," written for her by Kris Kristofferson, as hauntingly as Bobby Womack's "Trust Me" and her own compositions "Move Over" and "Mercedes Benz." In addition to "Me And Bobby McGee", "Get It While You Can" and "Cry Baby" were also released as singles. The blues singer's ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean off San Francisco Bay after her death at her request. Her entire $2,500 inheritance was distributed by 200 of her closest friends in a single evening, according to her wishes. Janis Joplin lived to be just 27 years old, and the two-disc edition features bonus tracks including a birthday message to John Lennon from the song "Happy Trails" and a reunion of the Full Tilt Boogie Band in an instrumental tribute to Joplin. The second disc contained an extended set from the Festival Express Tour, recorded between June 28 and July 4, 1970.
